AGENDA

Leonard Peltier Event - February 7, 2004: Sallie

Report of PJH committee which will be hosting the potluck following the march and rally at First United Methodist Church. The potluck will start about 3:00 depending on the weather. If it's raining, it may start earlier. Members are welcome to bring goodies to share. Sallie asked for volunteers to help with clean-up. We hope to leave the building by 6:30.

Stan Goff In Seattle: Mark J.

Stan Goff a former member of Special Forces and an outspoken critic of our military policies will be in Seattle the weekend of February 18, 19, 20, 21, his appearance sponsored by SNOW and ANSWER. He has written a book on Haiti and has a book coming out in February. He has a son in Iraq and is a prominent presence in the media. Discussion about the possibilities of bringing him here on Friday afternoon the 20th. The group felt it would be too difficult to prepare for his appearance at this date.

Truth in Recruiting: Howard

Howard talked about efforts of his C/O group and counselling program to educate young people and their parents about military experience, participation in JROTC, and what they can do to prepare themselves should they wish to not participate in the draft. He welcomes participation by others to help in this education program.

WAR TIMES: Sallie

Sallie handed out copies of the recent issue of WAR TIMES published in San Francisco for general distribution.

Film Committee: Sallie

The committee is checking into several possibilities: a film festival at a venue like the Blue Mouse and another festival for peace movement members. Film to be used by the Blue Mouse must be 16 milimeter. One title for the festival they are currently playing with is "The Glory of War." Glenda felt this might attract people who think war IS glorious and she thinks it unlikely any movie showing graphic war shots would be likely to change their mind. Discussion of our purpose for the festival. Sallie feels we need to be able to attract people - at least a hundred to make the festival worthwhile. Discussion of "preaching to the choir." Some movie titles being considered: "Gallipoli," "Das Boot," "Johnny's Got His Gun," "Born on the 4th of July," "Thin Blue Line," "Cabaret," "Full Metal Jacket." Other venue possibilities: Mason Methodist Church, PLU, UPS. Vivi discussed holding discussions after the movie(s).
