Meeting Notes for People for Peace, Justice, and Healing

People for Peace, Justice and Healing met March 12, 2005, at Associated Ministries. Present for check-in were Mark, Sallie, Karen H, Karen K., Laura, Colleen and Rob. Discussion: Progressive Roundtable meet on previous Saturday. Current events. The next meeting of the Progressive Roundtable will be Friday, March 25 at 7 a.m. at Shakabrah.

Colleen offered to do a Core Values "unit" for our group.

STUDY CIRCLE: Mark
On Monday night, Mar. 28, at 7:00 p.m., at the Mandolin Cafe (3923 S. 12th St., Tacoma), the UFPPC book discussion group "Digging Deeper" will begin a study circle on climate change and global warming. See the UFPPC web site for details.

CONVERSATION CAFE: Mark
Discussion of possible questions - stem cell research (at the request of a C/C participant) privatization of Social Security and "big boxes" - what Wal-Mart etc. are doing to labor.... We decided on stem cell research. Mark will frame the question. Discussion of how we choose the questions.

PEACE CAMP: Sallie
Sallie has sent out a letter to appropriate inter-faith groups to get their responses and interest.

NEXT SATURDAY WE MEET IN SEATTLE: Sallie
PJH will rally with the Bring the Troops Home Now rally in Seattle. To car pool or caravan to Seattle meet at the Tacoma Dome Park and Ride at East G Street and Puyallup Avenue, ground floor at 10 a.m. Rally and March starts at the Seattle Center Fountain at 12 Noon

EL SALVADOR - OSCAR ROMERO MEMORIAL TRIP: Laura
Tom Karlin, his daughter, son-in-law Tony Colombini and son Peter are traveling at the end of March -- they will be in El Salvador March 28 to April 3 -- to honor the memory of Oscar Romero, the former Archbishop of El Salvador. They are going to "plant a forest" in the "zone of peace" under the auspices of the Foundation for Self-Sufficiency in Central America. You can plant a tree in your or other's name for $10. or travel with them. Travel cost is around $1,400.
