MEETING NOTES

People for Peace, Justice, and Healing
September 8, 2012

People for Peace, Justice, and Healing met on September 8, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Antique Sandwich Company in Ruston.  Present for check-in were Sallie, Mark, Colleen, Rob, Sheila, Susan H., Sol, Susan D., and Sonja.

AGENDA

1. DEBRIEF (Sallie).
Last weekend's Jewish Voice for Peace installation on the Nakba in Marine Park on Ruston Way was quite successful, though the foot traffic on Labor Day Weekend was less substantial than anticipated.

2. DEBRIEF (Colleen)
Wednesday's fundraiser house party raised nearly $5,000. It was the first bascially straight R74 fundraiser in Tacoma, and was attended by three important political figures: Tacoma City Councilmember Ryan Mello (who spoke), Washington State Senator Debbie Regala, and former Washington State Representative Dennis Flannigan (served 2002-2010). Carl was in fine form in delivering "the pitch." This was PJH's most successful fundraiser ever. The group voted to donate an additional $100 from the treasury to bring the total donated to Washington United for Marriage over our goal of $5,000.

3. GATHERING (Colleen)
There will be a celebration of the fundraiser (with consumption of some leftovers) at Colleen's on Sat., Nov. 5, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. on.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. BUDRUS (Sallie).
The film "Budrus" will be shown at Temple Beth-El at 3:00 p.m. on Sun., Sept. 9.

2. WINE TASTING FUNDRAISER (Mark)
A wine tasting fundraiser for the Tacoma-Biot Sister City Committee will be held at Pour at Four (3814 N. 26th St., Tacoma -- 253-761-8015) on Sun., Sept. 16, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., to raise funds to support the French delegation, which arrives for a visit on Oct. 3, 2012. Admission is $50 per person. For more information, call Agnès Jensen, 253-756-7519.

3. MEAT BIRDS (Sol)

4. ROBERT REICH (Sallie)
Robert Reich, former secretary of labor (1993-1997) and Chancellor's Professor of Public Policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, will speak at the University of Puget Sound's Schneebeck Hall at 8:00 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 4, 2012, on "The Global Economy and the Future of Everything National."
