MEETING NOTES FOR PEOPLE FOR PEACE, JUSTICE, AND HEALING
September 22, 2007

People for Peace, Justice and Healing met September 22, 2007, at Associated Ministries at 10 a.m. Present for check-in were Susan, Jan, Rob, Mark, Nancy, Karen, Vivi.

Discussion: We discussed the debate, sponsored by UFPPC and PJH, staged the night before at King's Books re: should we withdraw immediately or "slowly" from Iraq. Books recommended by our guests for further study: Packer's The Assassin's Gate and Rick's Fiasco. Mark particularly recommends Fiasco. All agreed that despite the fact the "debate" was more a discussion/presentation, the evening was a success — stimulating and worthwhile.  More events coming....

AGENDA:

1. Sallie (all)
Discussion of our concern for Sallie's health and what we know about her condition — which is little. Karen said she and TP were going to try to see Sallie this weekend and all expressed their desire that their good wishes and concern be sent her way.

2. Sister City — Aboud (Nancy)
Nancy is presenting an appeal to the Sister City Committee to make Aboud, Palestine, a sister city. Located in Gaza the city is suffering from severe restrictions of water and electricity resources as well as other injustices and abuses. Nancy says they are in great need of people to people diplomacy — an opening of channels. The Sister City Committee makes recommendations to the City Council. It was recommended that in speaking of Aboud, which is a small city. Nancy likens its situation to the small town in Mexico that the city of Gig Harbor is currently helping with emergency vehicles, etc.
