Discussion of what this and other groups can do. Consensus: We should seek ways to: (1) Relieve suffering immediately; (2) Influence Obama's policy; (3) Stop U.S. military support; (4) Support the Israeli peace movement.

On Mon. evening, Jan. 5, UFPPC's book discussion group will examine Steve Coll’s Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001 (Penguin, 2004; revised paperback ed. 2005) and Ahmed Rashid's Descent into Chaos: The United States and the Failure of Nation Building in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asia (Viking, 2008). Digging Deeper meets Mondays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Mandolin Café (3923 S. 12th St., Tacoma)
