People for Peace, Justice, and Healing met on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Antique Sandwich Company in Ruston.  Present for check-in were Sallie, Mark, Rob, Colleen, and Sheila.

AGENDA

1. REPORT ON BALI (Colleen)
Ubud, Bali, is the cultural capital. More urbanization than four years ago. More traffic (though more motorscooters and motorcycles than cars). Children are cherished and raised affectionately. Massive ceremonial death processions are common; the burning of the bull. Bali is a ceremonial culture. For the first time, many Russian tourists. Bali has a humid, tropical climate. There are now female gamelan orchestras. Baliis the only Hindu culture in Indonesia. Around each temple is a banjar, a group of about 75 to 150 households. Getting to Bali requires a 24-hour trip.
