MEETING NOTES FOR PEOPLE FOR PEACE, JUSTICE, AND HEALING
June 2, 2007

People for Peace, Justice and Healing met at 10:00 a.m. on June 2, 2007 at Associated Ministries. Present for check-in were Sallie S., Sally M., Mark, Nancy, Karen K., Karen H., Sheila, and Kyle. Discussion: Vigiling on June 4 at the Convention Center re: the "SpecOpsWest 2007. Vigiling hours are 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on June 4 and noon on June 5 and 6. This "exhibition" features military hardware. Participants include: Northrup Grumman, Lockheed, and Raytheon. The show is not open to the public and is geared toward the defense industry, military service members, researchers and academics. Among the products on display are "50-caliber sniper rifles, 40mm grenade launchers and an array of gadgets and gear, some lethal and some not."

Discussion: Cindy Sheehan's announcement that she's leaving the peace movement.

Nancy discussed the June 8th, 9th and 10th weekend events to end the occupation of Palestine to be held in Cal Anderson Park in Seattle on Capitol Hill at 11th and East Olive. Organizations concerned with peace and justice in the Middle East will mark the 40 years of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

Discussion of the TNT's picking up the UFPPC story re: the discontinuance of individual ceremonies for each soldier killed in Iraq. The decision is being "re-considered" following a storm of controversy following the Ft. Lewis announcement.

Service for Smokey: Members participated in a "service of burial" for a rabbit Sallie found lying on I Street on her way to the meeting. Officiating for Smokey: Sallie, Kyle and Mark.
