AGENDA

1. Peace Works Conference 2008 (Nancy)
PPJH voted to cosponsor the Peace Works Conference 2008 ("Dual Occupations: Sovereignty and Freedom from Iraq to Palestine") at The Evergreen State College in Olympia on Oct. 17-19, 2008; this event will feature Dahlia Wasifi, M.D., and Col. Ann Wright.

2. Gary Murrell (Mark)
Discussion of Gary Murrell's candidacy for Norm Dicks's seat in the House of Representatives in Washington's 6th Congresssional District.

3. Banned books (Colleen)
The ACLU is currently looking for ideas useful for a September event planned in conjunction with King's Books will present on the the theme of banned books, expanded to encompass electronic media.

4. Unbanned book (Sallie)
Sallie showed a copy of a book entitled It's My Life: A Guide to Alternatives after High School edited by Janine Schwab (American Friends Service Committee, 2008; ISBN 978-0-910082-51-8). To be discussed: a fundraiser to finance the purchase of copies (@$9.95) for distribution locally.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. Ground Zero weekend (Sallie)
The Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action held its annual event Aug. 9-11 to remember the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and to join in nonviolent direct action to close the Bangor Trident submarine base, home of the largest collection of nuclear weapons in the U.S.

2. Digging Deeper LIV (Mark)
On Mon., Aug. 18, United for Peace of Pierce County's Monday evening book discussion group will discuss Vincent Bugliosi's The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Mandolin Cafe (3923 S. 12th St., Tacoma).
